The importance of EMI shielding
There are numerous causes of EMI, it’s not just cell phones… Other sources include high frequency devices, electronics/computers, microwaves, power lines and electric motors. There are natural sources of electromagnetic interference too, such as lightening.
Electromagnetic interference can disrupt electronic devices resulting in temporary failure of the device to, at the very worst, loss of life. Devices and systems affected by EMI include medical and military electronics, as well as navigation and vehicle control systems – clearly it is essential that these applications are suitably shielded.
EMI Shielding Touchscreens
A lot of the touchscreens we supply are for use within the medical, military and automotive industries. In many cases, the performance of these touchscreens is critical. Therefore, we have developed our own EMI shielding touchscreens.
The touchscreen is constructed using mostly a Faraday cage, but obviously the screen display is left open, meaning the Faraday cage is not completely terminated. Using low resistance ITO glass, the cage is terminated and we are able to reduce or eliminate any electromagnetic interference.
