Why Indium Tin Oxide?
Indium Tin Oxide has two fantastic properties that combine well, certainly in the manufacture of touch screens. It is transparent and can be applied as a thin coating to substrates such as glass or plastic. It is also conductive, so essentially, when a sheet of glass, plastic or thin film is coated with ITO, it remains transparent but becomes conductive.
Another factor in the use of ITO is its relative ease of deposition onto above mentioned substrates.
Capacitive or Resistive
(We can supply both). There is a big difference between the two forms of touch screen: capacitive and resistive. A capacitive screen relies more on the touch of a human user. This touch alters the charge on the ITO glass screen and highlights the location of touch.
A resistive screen works differently and relies on a downward pressure motion on the screen to register location and command. Both types of screen are perfect in their own chosen environments – a capacitive screen works fantastically well on your cell phone, whereas a resistive touch screen works better in a public facing area and is capable of dealing with the most heavy handed of users.
Resistive touch displays and touchscreens offer variable X-Y touch-point detection and approximately 70% visible transmission. A capacitive touch screen offers 90% visible transmission.
