Suitable for many different applications, capacitive touch screens offer numerous advantages over resistive touch screens. Here are some of these advantages and potential applications for capacitive ITO touch screens.
Capacitive Touch Screen Advantages
The first advantage of capacitive screens is their high visible transmission, which at, 90%, is higher than that of resistive screens (70%). This, of course, provides much better image quality.
Then, of course, there are durability and reliability. Resistive touch screens require pressure to work, which ultimately means frequently used areas may ultimately become unresponsive – and if a resistive screen is pierced or broken, it is highly likely to stop working.
More rugged and subsequently better equipped to withstand harsh environments, capacitive screens require only the slightest touch, which means wear and tear are minimal. In addition, even a cracked/pierced screen will continue to work.
Responding only to the touch of a finger, they are also easier to clean with a piece of fabric and there is no risk of accidental activation of apps, etc. due to pressure applied by other objects in a bag, for instance.
What’s more, capacitive screens allow for multi-touch functionality (i.e. gesture touch; pinch & zoom, etc.), which is not possible with resistive screens. Depending on the application at hand, this, of course, can be highly beneficial.
Finally, but by no means least importantly, capacitive screen technology is rapidly becoming the top choice for applications across many different industries. Any advancements are therefore likely to be made bearing this technology in mind – meaning capacitive screens will be compatible with new developments and therefore future proof.
Capacitive Touch Screen Applications
Already the most popular option for smart phone, laptop, computer and tablet screens, capacitive screens are also increasingly used for iPods, in-dash displays in the automotive industry, point-of-sale/informational displays and check-outs; ATMs, musical instruments (i.e. touch screen guitars) and displays situated in the backs of transatlantic airplanes’ seats.
They are also the ideal solution for manufacturing machinery, medical and military/naval displays, switch boards and a whole host of other commercial and industrial applications.
Capacitive ITO Touch Screens
As an industry-leading manufacturer of both resistive and capacitive screens, Diamond Coatings use index-matching technology to produce capacitive ITO touch screens with visible transmission rates equal to those of uncoated glass/plastic. As capacitive screens are necessarily driven by chips, we provide packages complete with these chips.
Able to produce screens measuring up to 1,000mm x 1,000mm in size on glass or flexible/rigid plastic, we can also offer hard coat, anti-glare and/or any other required finishes.
